Poll: Californians weigh in on recall, COVID-19 relief, undocumented immigrants
SAN FRANCISCO – (INT) – Signature-gathering for the potential recall of Governor Newsom appears to have been successful, but its intent may not resonate with a majority of California voters.
According to the latest poll by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), four in ten likely voters say they would vote yes on removing Governor Newsom in a special recall election. Just over half of Californians approve of the governor’s job performance, similar to ratings in January.
Governor Newsom is up for re-election next year.
Other key findings in the PPIC poll:
• Overwhelming majorities support the $7.6 billion COVID-19 relief package signed by Governor Newsom as well as the $1.9 trillion federal relief package.
• Most Democrats, independents, and Republicans support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
• Ninety percent of Californians say housing affordability is a problem in their part of the state, and some residents are seriously considering moving.
