Officer-involved shootings bring deadly consequences
INLAND EMPIRE – (INT) – Officer-involved shootings across the inland region have claimed three lives in just four days. No officers were injured.

In the latest, sheriff’s deputies were attempting to arrest Juan Carlos Estrada when he holed up in a Moreno Valley home Saturday evening. Estrada, 40, was wanted for a possible kidnapping and felony assault earlier Saturday. According to an account given by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Estrada ran out of the home on La Fortuna Lane toward deputies and was shot dead. It was not clear if Estrada was armed. The involved deputies were placed on administrative leave.

Meantime, investigators from several law enforcement agencies are comparing notes before releasing details of an officer-involved shooting outside the Welcome Inn hotel in Corona Friday that claimed the life of an individual named in several felony arrest warrants. He was identified this week as Angel Nelson, 25, of Corona. A Gang Impact Team had been looking for the Nelson who’d been involved in an assault and attempted kidnap on Thursday. As officers were closing in on the suspect, gunfire erupted in the hotel parking lot and Nelson was shot dead. There were no other reported injuries. The suspect’s gun was recovered at the scene.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department homicide division is investigating a law enforcement ‘encounter’ that ended with a man’s death in Barstow. Officers with the Barstow Police Department were involved in the incident last Wednesday. Dead is Lance Montgomery Powell, 60, of Barstow, according to the coroner.
Neither police or sheriff’s investigators released any details.
