Summer heat, storms on worst behavior
SOUTHLAND - (INT) - The weather went on an afternoon rampage Thursday dumping torrents of rain and isolated flash flooding at some mountain and desert locations.
Most impacted was Highway 18 between Snow Valley and the Arctic Circle at Big Bear which became impassable with rocks, mud and debris for a few hours Thursday. Rainfall was estimated at 2-inches.
Heaviest measured rain was in the San Jacinto Mountains at 1.06”.
In the deserts, pockets of heavy rain hop-skotched from Apple Valley to Barstow,
An encore of less intense storms is predicted for the mountains and deserts this afternoon tapering off for the weekend.
As for the heat, little if any relief is likely for the weekend but it’s most likely later next week.
