Southland air quality impacted by far-away wildfires SOUTHLAND – (INT) – Gray, murky skies covering the Southland are the result of smoke from wildfires in Central California.
While it’s mostly in the upper atmosphere, the AQMD says the surface air quality is worst in the San Bernardino, San Gabriel and San Jacinto Mountains. The wildfire smoke has pushed the Air Quality Index (AQI) to 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' of people until Friday afternoon. Protections against poor air quality: ✅ Close all windows and doors and run air conditioners and/or an air purifier. If possible, do not use whole-house fans or swamp coolers that bring in outside air. ✅ Avoid using wood-burning fire places or firepits and minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling. ✅ Limit the use of gasoline powered lawn and garden equipment.
