BARSTOW – (INT) – Dave Spink, a 32-year veteran of the Barstow Fire Department, died over the weekend of extensive injuries he suffered at the scene of a traffic mishap last month.

Spink suffered extensive head injuries when struck by a vehicle after responding to an earlier accident December 5th on the I-15 in Barstow.

Spink, 56, died Sunday at the Loma Linda University Medical Center where he’d been on life support.

Spink began his career with the Barstow Fire Protection District in 1990 and was promoted to the rank of engineer in 1999.

There was no update from the California Highway Patrol on the status of the investigation into the incident.
