Escort service offered around Highway 18 washout
CRESTLINE – (INT) – Caltrans says it will be the first week of February before the washout on Highway 18 near Panorama Point is repaired.

Excavation and slope repairs must be completed before the roadbed is laid in place.

The $4.2 million repair job is dependent on weather which has been generally favorable.

The washout undermined and collapsed the upbound lane near Panorama Point during heavy rains just before Christmas.

Since January 7th, a pilot car has escorted motorists along Highway 18 between Mormon Road to just north of Upper Waterman Canyon. The escort service is 24/7 but that could be adjusted because of construction needs and the traffic volume.
