Extended La Nina impacts California weather
SOUTHLAND - (INT) - El Nino was once feared to have a high rainfall impact on California’s weather. It’s counterpart, La Niña, is proving to be an opposite factor.

The climate-related oscillations are based on sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, prevailing winds and their impact on atmospheric conditions.

The Climate Prediction Center said Thursday that La Nina will remain in full force over California and the Northern Hemisphere through the spring. “It is anticipated to affect temperature and precipitation across the United States during the upcoming months,” the Center predicted.

That could mean more warm, dry weather for California before La Nina relaxes to more neutral conditions later in the year.
