RIVERSIDE – (INT) - The 71-year-old director of the now-defunct Career Development Institute is being accused of sexual battery and dependent adult abuse.

Alan Clyde Schwerdt, who was also former director of Ability Counts, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of crimes that occurred over a 5-year period while he oversaw the two organizations. Both offer programs and services for adults with developmental disabilities.

Police said Wednesday the allegations became known in 2021.
