La Nina, El Nino may duel for supremacy
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – La Nina is getting an ongoing nod from climatologists. But, there are some changes in ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific that could be the forerunner of some badly needed rain for California.

The Climate Prediction Center is not ready to call for an El Nino, but there are signs the strength of La Nina from July to September may weaken and then increase again this coming winter.

After this summer, the forecast is for renewed cooling with La Niña favored during the fall and early winter.

It should be noted that sea surface temperatures off the Southern California Coast have been running 60-70 degrees the past few weeks. That is 5-degrees above normal for late spring.
