Monsoon Weather Season arrives
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – The National Weather Service has proclaimed the opening of the Monsoon Weather Season in Southern California.

It began June 15th and continues through September as storms sweep into the Southland from Northern Mexico.

The mountains and deserts are favorite targets of the heat-fueled storms. While some result only in scattered sprinkles, others can unleash torrential downpours. The resulting flooding can cause debris flows and road damage.

In the worst case scenarios, people have drowned driving on flooded roads.

Caltrans says just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most vehicles.
