SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – City officials are encouraged over the future potential of the Carousel Mall site.

Interested developers are joining the narrative over what’s to become of the 43-acre site. "We know the redevelopment will serve as a catalyst to transform the entire downtown area," said Nathan Freeman, Director of Community, Housing, and Economic Development.

Interest over other downtown properties has also spiked.

Real estate developer Lincoln Property Company (LPC West) may offer a mix of housing, office, and commercial space in one location. LPC West is the second largest apartment operator in the United States.

In the more immediate future, City will seek proposals to demolish the mall and clear the site in the coming months. The cost to demolish the mall will be factored into the purchase price of the property.

Inquiries from additional developers have increased. “Things may be happening faster than we envisioned," Freeman said.
