U.S. Department of Energy announced it has awarded $1.1 billion to support a limited-term extension of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. The funding is derived from the Civil Nuclear Credit Program. Diablo Canyon on the Central California coast is the state’s only remaining nuclear power plant and had been facing a shut-down. Earlier, Governor Newsom signed a measure authorizing a limited-term extension of the power plant’s license. Any extension requires approvals by federal, state and local regulatory entities. (INT)
