State steps up efforts to capture rain storm runoff
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – As parts of California are overflowing with generous rains, state officials are stepping up ways to better capture the run-off.

Water captured during extreme wet periods will be stored in groundwater basins for use during dry periods.

The State Department of Water Resources and the Water Resources Control Board are taking the regulatory steps necessary to store significant rainfall and excess water underground, while still ensuring protections for the environment as required in State law.

DWR Director Karla Nemeth said β€œThe State is capturing more water supply by accelerating groundwater recharge permitting and projects that mitigate the impacts of prolonged drought and support long-term sustainable groundwater management.”
