La Nina exiting with the predicted return of El Nino ![]() SOUTHLAND – (INT) – La Nina’s influence on California’s climate and drought the past 3-years is ending.
The Climate Prediction Center issued its final advisory on La Nina Thursday March 9th and said neutral conditions now exist in the water and atmospheric temperatures of the Central Pacific where much of California’s weather originates. It predicted that neutral conditions in the Northern Hemisphere will continue until early summer with an El Nino developing after that. It added that “it is possible that strong warming near South America may portend a more rapid evolution toward El Niño.” Most El Nino’s usually portend more rain for California, but that has not uniformly happened with the northern part of the state getting a bigger share.
