With Southern California telephone numbers running out, a new area code 738 is coming. The so-called ‘overlay’ will cover downtown Los Angeles and the immediate suburbs that now are included in area codes 213 and 323. The California Public Utilities Commission approved the change. The 213 area code was created in 1947 and was one of the original three area codes in California. (INT)
