Can the “Big Melt” recharge groundwater basins?
FRESNO – (INT) – Pumps and siphons are being deployed in the flood-prone Central Valley as the ‘Big Melt’ in the snow-laden Sierra Nevada Mountains gains momentum.

The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is providing temporary diversion equipment initially in the Fresno Irrigation District.

The run-off is being aimed at recharging groundwater basins.
The DWR’s goal is to reduce downstream flood impacts in the Tulare Lake Region.
