Can the “Big Melt” recharge groundwater basins? ![]() FRESNO – (INT) – Pumps and siphons are being deployed in the flood-prone Central Valley as the ‘Big Melt’ in the snow-laden Sierra Nevada Mountains gains momentum.
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is providing temporary diversion equipment initially in the Fresno Irrigation District. The run-off is being aimed at recharging groundwater basins. The DWR’s goal is to reduce downstream flood impacts in the Tulare Lake Region. Story Date: May 15, 2023
