Update on Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – Rebuilding the iconic Mt. Vernon Avenue bridge spanning the BNSF railyards in San Bernardino will take longer than expected.

A conflict involving utilities within the railyard was resolved in April. That aspect of the project will enable BNSF to complete its portion of the improvements by the end of the year. Actual work on the bridge has been suspended until then.

The original bridge was closed to the public in 2020 over earthquake safety concerns. It was taken down in April 2021.

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority says it’s optimistic the new bridge will be completed and open to the public in 2025.
