Revised state budget focuses on flooding, storm recovery and University of California
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Governor Newsom’s proposed mid-year budget revisions address some repercussions stemming from last winter’s storms and spring flooding.

The proposed spending revisions include $100 million for the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy at UCLA and $2 million for the UC Riverside School of Medicine.

Proposed additional spending:

• $125 million to support preparedness, response and recovery related to the 2023 storms – funding shifted from drought contingency to flood contingency
• $75 million to support local flood control projects
• $25 million to expand the current California Small Agricultural Business Drought Relief Grant Program
• $25 million for potential additional disaster relief and response costs in this fiscal year to address immediate impacts
• $40 million for the San Joaquin Floodplain restoration

There was no extra funding in the wake of the historic snowstorms that buried the San Bernardino Mountains.

California has since shifted its focus to flood prevention and recovery efforts.
