Aftermath of Hilary revealed across Coachella Valley ![]() PALM SPRINGS – (INT) – More consequences of Tropical Storm Hilary are coming to light across the Inland Empire.
Most of the rain has ended and skies are slowly clearing. But, it may take a few days to shovel mountain and desert roads clear of mud and debris and make repairs. Troublespots have been concentrated in the Coachella Valley and the lower Banning Pass. Eastbound Interstate 10 was closed Monday morning at Haugen-Lehmann Way because of mudslides. Two lanes were reopened by Monday evening. Around the Windy Point area, northbound Route 111was also closed because of mudslides. Roads leading into Palm Springs including Indian Canyon were also closed because of flooding along the Whitewater River. Local emergencies were declared in Indio and Palm Springs because of flooding. 9-1-1 emergency lines were being restored Monday. Power is being gradually restored to areas of the Coachella Valley where high winds brought down utility poles. Fifty poles are being replaced in the Thermal area. Caltrans is clearing roads in the San Bernardino Mountains of mud, boulders and debris. Raging torrents tore down Sheep Creek near Wrightwood. Story Date: August 22, 2023
