Gun violence prevention aims at protecting school kids
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Gun control in California may be taking another step forward as state lawmakers have approved the Gun Violence Prevention and School Safety Act.

It would impose an 11 percent excise tax on firearms and ammunition sold by gun manufacturers and dealers.

It’s estimated the tax would generate over $150 million annually to fund school safety and violence prevention programs. That would include initiatives to prevent school shootings, bolster firearm investigations, reduce retaliatory violence, and remove guns from domestic abusers.

The legislation creating the excise tax is awaiting Governor Newsom’s approval.
