Crackdown on warehouse pollution begins
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – With the proliferation of new warehouses in the Inland Empire, the AQMD has begun enforcing limitations on emissions of nitrogen oxide and diesel particulates.

The limits are defined under the Warehouse Indirect Source Rule.

The AQMD has issued 109 violation notices to warehouse owners and operators who have failed to meet deadlines that were approved in 2021.

Rule 2305 “requires warehouses greater than 100-thousand square feet to take actions to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and diesel particulate matter (PM) emissions or to otherwise limit exposures to air pollution in nearby communities,” according to a statement by the AQMD.

The AQMD has been initially focusing on warehouses located in so-called Environmental Justice communities.
