Would “Mass Timber” put California at the forefront of a revolution? Restoring California’s logging industry is seen as a tool to better forest management.
It’s being spearheaded by Golden Together, a movement to restore the California dream. It proposes replacing concrete as a prime construction material with wood. A policy paper just issued points out: -California’s 30,000 square miles of forest and chaparral are overgrown tinderboxes primed for wildfires and the carbon emissions that contribute to climate change - A revived timber industry could put California at the forefront of a revolution in sustainable construction materials and lower-cost homebuilding. - Most of the proposed reforms are cost-neutral to taxpayers. Golden Together led by author and government policy advisor Steve Hilton. Story Date: March 17, 2024
