More would-be students set sights on UC campuses The University of California has drawn a quarter-million applicants for fall 2024. That’s an increase over last year powered by a significant rebound in community college transfer applicants and more in-state residents of increasingly diverse backgrounds.
Preliminary data released Wednesday showed the number of first-year applications at UC increased 1-point-4 percent. There were gains at eight of nine UC undergraduate campuses, including UC Riverside. UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Irvine drew the most first-year applications from Californians. Applications from out-of-state residents fell, possibly a reflection on keeping more spots for Californians. Latinos were again the largest group of applicants, at 39%, with Asian Americans at 30%, whites at 20%, Black students at 7% and American Indians at 1%. UC Riverside received 57-thousand-420 applications for first-year seats and 12-thousand-42 for transfer spots. (INT) Story Date: March 29, 2024
