Forecast: End of El Nino predicted
SOUTHLAND – (INT) – There is growing evidence that the current edition of El Nino is on its last lap. It is likely to have played a role in this winter’s storms that pummeled much of California.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is reporting cooling ocean temperatures in the equatorial Pacific. As a result, the CPC says there’s an 83 percent chance that El Nino will end in the April to June timeframe. The odds of the drier La Nina returning this summer are put at 62 percent.

The CPC noted “There is a historical tendency for La Niña to follow strong El Niño events.” That not only affects California’s weather but could have an impact on the intensity of the upcoming hurricane season.
