$4 million settles fatal officer-involved shooting
SAN BERNARDINO - (INT) – Litigation over an officer-involved shooting in San Bernardino has been settled with the City agreeing to pay 4 million dollars to the dead man’s family.

Attorney Steven Rothans representing the City, said given the “current climate in the courts” it was prudent to agree to the settlement.

Rothans expressed concern over the costs and attorneys’ fees to take a federal civil rights case to trial, ”as well as the risks associated with a civil jury.”

Adams’ estate had been seeking 100-million dollars.

The City did not accept culpability for the actions of two officers who were investigating known illegal gambling activity at a location on Highland Avenue when they encountered Rob Marquise Adams. According to a police account, Adams produced a firearm and split through a parking lot refusing their order to ‘freeze’. One officer fired six rounds at Adams.

A gun at the scene matched Adams’ DNA.
