Could electricity rates be headed down?
SAN FRANCISCO – (INT) – A proposal is before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that could cut electricity bills for most residential customers across the state.

Currently, all customers are paying to maintain the electric grid.

Under this proposal, utilities would shift these existing fixed costs—like the costs of maintaining power lines and equipment—into a separate “Flat Rate” line item on every customer’s bill.

As the CPUC explains it, the revised billing structure does not impose any new fees, nor does it generate new profit for utilities—it simply reallocates how existing costs are shared among customers.

If approved, the new billing structure would go into effect in late next year.
