SACRAMENTO – (INT) – An appeals court in Northern California has affirmed a lower court opinion that local governments are empowered to allow for denser housing, irrespective of local restrictions if the local government so chooses.

The ruling comes in the case of Senate Bill 10 which addresses the issue of insufficient, affordable housing and allows for the construction of denser housing.

Senator Scott Wiener asserts “The court’s recognition that our housing crisis is best tackled at the state level is a historic step forward for pro-housing policy.”
