Snowpack peaks, water managers celebrate second year of surplus
SACRAMENTO– (INT) – For the second consecutive year, the snow pack in the Sierra Nevada’s is far above average.

At the beginning of January, it was only 28 percent of average. Snow depth measurements taken Tuesday (April 2nd) are at 110-percent of normal.

With the melting snow, statewide reservoir levels currently stand at 116 percent of average.

State Water Project managers have increased predicted allocations of water supplies for the year to 30 percent, up from an initial 10 percent.

State Climatologist Dr. Michael Anderson sounded a note of caution reminding Californians of three record-setting, multi-year droughts in the last 15 years.
