Legislation could establish Office of Civil Rights
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – Proposed legislation could land a blow against bullying in California schools.

If approved, an Office of Civil Rights would be established within the California Department of Education. It would investigate complaints alleging bullying, harassment, intimidation and unlawful discrimination.

State School Superintendent Tony Thurmond called for a reaffirmation of “our commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of all students in California's public schools."
