MORENO VALLEY – (INT) – Moreno Valley Third District city councilman David Marquez has abruptly resigned over an absenteeism issue. His photo no longer appears on the city’s website.

Marquez was elected in December 2016.

In 2018, he wrote to then-mayor Yxstian Gutierrez asking to be removed from all sub and commission appointments “due to every action that I have proposed being declined by you and the mayor pro.tem.”

Marquez was re-elected in 2020 to 4-year term.

His recent attendance record was not immediately available.

The Third District encompasses the Rancho Belago area and is geographically the largest in Moreno Valley.
