Bill limits boundaries in community college instruction
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – California’s community college instructors must be able to prove they are human beings.

Governor Newsom has signed a bill ensuring that an instructor—for both credit and non-credit courses—must meet the minimum qualifications set by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges to serve as a faculty member, librarian, or counselor.

AB 2370 authored by Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside) will ensure that community college students are taught by qualified human faculty rather than artificial intelligence (AI).

With the launch of several AI tools, artificial intelligence has exhibited the ability to write essays, assist with research, and solicit feedback.

The growing use of AI in educational settings has left many community college faculty concerned about the impact on their classrooms.

Many institutions of higher education are exploring options to integrate artificial intelligence into their courses and curriculum, and in some instances are doing so without any boundaries.
