Officer-involved killing gets higher investigation
HEMET – (INT) – Evidence has determined that a man shot and killed by Hemet police was not armed.

First-responding officers had been told that the intoxicated man had walked out of a bar “with a gun in his pants”. Police did not describe the confrontation that followed when officers found him on Florida Avenue early Thursday morning.


The dead man was later identified as Jimmy Lopez, 26, of Hemet.

The California Department of Justice intervened in the investigation because it was found the man was not armed at the time he was shot.
