California slates permanent water restrictions SACRAMENTO – (INT) – California’s first-ever permanent water restrictions because of climate change are coming.
It’s expected that the state’s water supply will drop 10% by 2040 due to hotter and drier conditions. The cutbacks will be phased in for water suppliers across the state. Enforcement of the conservation is expected to start in 2027. For example, Redding is projected for a reduction of 21 percent under the objective for next year. The restrictions do not apply to individuals or households, just the suppliers and how much they supply to their customers. Story Date: July 31, 2024
