Massive rail facility would ease seaport supply chain issues BARSTOW – (INT) – Plans are in the works for a 45-hundred acre integrated rail facility at Barstow that would transfer goods from international to domestic containers.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) says the sprawling rail yard would potentially create more than 20,000 new jobs and help to address logistics and supply chain issues. The Barstow International Gateway project is expected to also help reduce freeway congestion around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. To initiate the process, a notice was published in the Federal Register Wednesday (August 28th) seeking public comment on the government’s proposal to sell 30 acres of public land to BNSF to be included in the project.
