Transportation sales tax sidelined RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Additional funding of four Riverside County transportation projects has been dealt a set back. A proposed new transportation sales tax will not be put to the voters this year.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) has been told there is countywide public support to fund the projects, but not by the two-thirds voter approval threshold required by law. “Now it’s not the time to seek voter approval on a new measure to fund the Traffic Relief Plan, but I think the time is coming soon,” said Lloyd White, chairman of the RCTC. Projects that would have been funded by a new sales tax include the Coachella Valley Rail, I-15 Express Lanes Southern Extension, Perris Valley Line Double Tracking and the Mid-County Parkway Ramona Expressway.
