Are voters being mistakenly retained to cast ballots?
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Election officials are in a quandary over the accuracy of voter registration rolls.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters hired a credit reporting agency to review the county’s entire list of voters to identify those who have moved or may be deceased. The agency identified 123,541 individuals who MAY have moved. Almost another 150-thousand out of 1.34 million voter file records listed addresses that “couldn’t be validated”.

If those voters do not confirm their voter status has changed, sign the post card, and mail it back, the state requires the counties keep them listed as a registered voter. That rule is mandated for all 58 California counties.

The state law (Elections Code 2227) requires an affirmative response from the voter that they have moved or no longer wish to be registered to vote in our county BEFORE each county can remove them.

Meantime, the first of 1-point-3 million Voter Information Guides are being mailed to all active registered voters in Riverside County.
