Iran launches missile attack on Israel
TEHRAN - Iranian state TV has carried a statement from the IRGC (lslamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) confirming "dozens" of missiles have been launched towards Israel, and threatening another attack if Israel responds.

The powerful Revolutionary Guards describes the missile strike as retaliation for the assassination of the Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, as well as the Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and for the killing of Lebanese and Palestinian people.

It said its air force had targeted “important bases” and would announce the details later.

U.S. officials warned earlier that Iran was preparing a ballistic missile strike targeting Israel, a senior White House official and a Department of Defense official told NBC News.

Biden orders US military to shoot down Iranian missiles

The White House issued the statement shortly after Iran began firing missiles.

The US, which has increased its military presence in the region, played an instrumental role in shooting down Iranian missiles during Tehran’s last strike on Israel on April 13.

US troops in region did not come under attack

The Washington Post is reporting, citing three anonymous Pentagon officials, that American troops in the Middle East were not targeted during the Iranian missile attack in Israel.

The assault follows Israel launching widespread attacks in Lebanon, including the killing of Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah and a ground invasion of the south of the country.
