Intense high pressure spawns mini-heatwave
INLAND EMPIRE - (INT) - High pressure will remain parked over California through Thursday.

With high pressure in full control, a spike in temperatures should peak on Wednesday but any cooling that follows into the weekend will be only slight.

Tuesday’s temperatures across the Inland Empire Metro Area returned to triple digits for the first time in three weeks. Riverside and San Bernardino maxed out at 104. Temecula hit 106.

Because of the heat and the uncontrolled Line Fire, all schools in the Bear Valley Unified School District were to be closed Wednesday.

There is an Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisories through Thursday for most of the Inland Empire. Afternoon temperatures are expected to be 10 to 20 degrees above average. Near record high temperatures are possible for the mountains, lower deserts, and inland valleys through Sunday.

In contrast, night and morning low clouds will keep coastal cities air conditioned. The marine layer may deepen enough to reach into the western valleys, before thinning a tad over the weekend.

Forecast models are calling for a gradual cooling trend for Monday and Tuesday, but high temperatures will remain 10 to 15 degrees above average for inland locations.
