Donkey rescue, relocation underway MORENO VALLEY – (INT) – A round-up of wild burros is underway in the hills along the Riverside-San Bernardino County line.
The critters have roamed Reche and San Timoteo canyons since the 1800’s when they were no longer needed by farmers and miners. They have proliferated and number in the thousands. As times change, the burros have encountered more vehicle traffic and freight trains. And, the result is often tragic. Others have become entangled in fencing and seriously injured suffering infection. San Bernardino County has entered into an agreement with Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. So far, 68 burros have been rounded up. They have been taken to a make-shift corral for a health check before being relocated to a Peaceful Valley-owned facility and provided either permanent refuge or private adoption.
