Snow-producing atmospheric rivers give NorCal winter jumpstart SACRAMENTO – (INT) - The first snow survey of the season in the High Sierra has found the snowpack 108 percent of average for the date.
A powerful atmospheric river in November broke several rainfall records in Northern California. A series of storms in late December provided another boost. Southern California is in sharp contrast with rain and snowfall far below normal. Major reservoirs statewide are currently 121 percent of average thanks to two consecutive years of above average snowpack conditions. Those occurred after the driest three-year period on record in California. Story Date: January 14, 2025
