Freeway 91 crash claims Riverside County sheriff’s deputy
RIVERSIDE – (INT) – Dozens of law enforcement vehicles joined in a procession down Freeway 215 Wednesday to pay their respects to a motorcycle officer killed in an accident just hours earlier in Riverside.

Sheriff’s deputy Timothy Corlew died in a collision on the 91 freeway. Reports indicated he was on-duty at the time operating a department-issued motorcycle.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the early morning crash near La Sierra Avenue. It said the deputy was riding westbound in the HOV lane when traffic stopped in all lanes. The deputy's motorcycle rear-ended a sedan ejecting the officer onto another car, according to a CHP statement. Corlew died later at a local hospital.

Later, dozens of police cars streamed down the 215 freeway to the coroner’s office in Perris where the deputy’s body was taken. Lanes and on-ramps to the freeway were closed to allow the procession to pass.
