How to help LA fire victims, be wary
SOUTHLAND - (INT) - While donating to different causes is a great way to help aid relief efforts, the Better Business Bureau urges people to do their due diligence regarding where they're donating.

Here are six tips:
• Make sure the charity is trustworthy. Check a charity's Better Business Bureau accreditation
• Be wary of relief appeals that have vague descriptions and don't explain exactly what your activities will assist.
• Watch out for clickbait and phishing scams. Instead, go directly to the charity's website on your own.
• Review crowdfunding requests. Some have specific requirements for crowdfunding; others don't.
• Verify charity registration. Check with the attorney general's office or secretary of state's office.
• Understand the phases of disaster relief and what might be needed at each stage.
