Warm sunshine will yield to clouds, rain.
INLAND EMPIRE METRO: Mother nature redraws weather maps ahead of coming changes.

KEY POINTS:
-Weather turns unsettled this week
-Chances for periods of rain and high elevation snow starting Tuesday through Friday.
-Gusty winds for mountain ridges, passes and desert slopes

An atmospheric river is taking aim at California. But the Southland is not in the bullseye. Central and Northern California could have some consequences.

Cloudier and cooling conditions will erase the recent bout of warm sunshine. There will be periods of gusty southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts on Tuesday and Wednesday, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph at the wind-prone locations.

Through Friday, afternoon temperatures will remain as much as 4 to 8 degrees below average for the valleys.

Rainfall estimates range from one- quarter inch across the valleys to one-half inch on the coastal slopes of the San Bernardino County mountains. Snow levels will remain mostly above 7,000 ft until later in the week.

There will likely be some warming and drying for the coming weekend.
