Police respond to unruly demonstrators, five officers hurt
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – San Bernardino police say that five of their own were injured and several vehicles vandalized in Monday’s encounter with rock-throwing demonstrators on Baseline Street.

The daylong series of encounters over President Trump's immigration policies came to a climax when an estimated 300 demonstrators marched down Baseline intending to stop traffic on the 215 freeway. Police formed a skirmish line and responded with less-than-lethal chemical agents forcing the crowd to disperse.

In a statement early Tuesday, police said they acted because “the crowd refused to comply and continued to assault and overwhelm the officers, forcing them to call several other local law enforcement agencies for assistance.”

Among those arrested face felony assault charges on police officers.
