How safe is walking the streets of San Bernardino?
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – San Bernardino, a one-time ‘All American City’, is being tarnished by a street safety problem.

It is the second-most dangerous mid-size city in the nation for pedestrians. The National Highway Safety Administration lists 62 pedestrian fatalities per 100-thousand residents. Only Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is more dangerous.

Rounding out the top 5 worst cities are Macon, Georgia; Baton Rouge, Louisiana and St. Louis, Missouri.

Pedestrian fatalities hit a low mark in 2009 but have doubled since then.

Even when considering total pedestrian fatalities (and not per capita), only two of ten most populated counties appear on the list of most dangerous roads for pedestrians. The conclusion was that big cities are typically safer for pedestrians.
