US attorney investigates homeless waste and fraud
SOUTHLAND – US Attorney Bill Essayli announced Tuesday (April 8th) the formation of the Homelessness Fraud and Corruption Task Force. It will investigate fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption involving funds allocated toward the eradication of homelessness within a 7-county region.

Los Angeles County alone contains a homeless population of more than 75,000, of which more than 45,000 are within the city limits of Los Angeles.

In Riverside and San Bernardino counties, collectively the Inland Empire, the estimated homeless population based on an annual count of 5-thousand.

Essayli, a former state assemblyman from Corona, was recently appointed US Attorney for the Central District of California.
