Storing our stuff: Who’s doing it most?
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) - According to StorageCafe’s latest annual survey, 33% of Americans currently rent a self- storage unit.

San Bernardino is seeing a sharp rise in demand for self storage, with storage-related online searches increasing 138% year-over-year in 2024 — the third-highest spike among the 150 largest U.S. cities.

The trend is driven by downsizing, rising urban density, and the ongoing challenge of finding affordable housing. Baby Boomers (42%) lead in current storage rental, often driven by downsizing and long-term accumulation.

27% of users visit their storage unit at least once a week, using it as an active extension of their home.
