Mt. Vernon Avenue bridge nears completion
SAN BERNARDINO – (INT) – Rebuilding the Mt. Vernon Avenue bridge across the BNSF rail yards in San Bernardino has reached another milestone.

Crews have poured the first section of the bridge deck. On one span of the bridge, 180 cubic yards of concrete will be used, which is enough to fill approximately 55 backyard swimming pools.

The original bridge connected neighborhoods on the west side of San Bernardino for nearly 90 years, but eventually was deemed no longer earthquake safe and was demolished. Its replacement spans one of the largest rail yards in Southern California and will open this August.
