Homeless counts show improvement ![]() SAN BERNARDINO β (INT) β Efforts to decrease homelessness in San Bernardino County may be working.
Results of the latest, annual Point-In-Time Count (PITC) shows a 14.2 percent decrease in the number of unsheltered individuals. 2,718 were counted, the first decrease since 2022. The annual count is crucial for securing grant funding to assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. County Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. says βThe data from this year is encouraging because it shows that our efforts are making a difference.β Baca chairs the Continuum of Care (CoC) Board, which is responsible for building a countywide network to support the homeless. Meantime, Riverside City officials report the growth of homelessness in their city has stopped. More people are in shelters than ever, according to another Point in Time Count. There were 614 unsheltered individuals within the city limits. The City is focusing on an assortment of solutions that include homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing and affordable housing. Story Date: May 27, 2025
