Is California school enrollment on the rebound?
SACRAMENTO – (INT) – New data for the 2024-25 school year shows a hint that years of declining public school enrollment is slowing.

Declining enrollment has been a strain on public schools even before the onset of the COVID pandemic. But, the California Department of Education (CDE) found that even as overall enrollment has declined, TK enrollment is booming. The year-over-year increase was 17-point-2 percent.

The CDE says the data reflects an increased demand for specific education initiatives, such as TK.

State schools chief Tony Thurmond found the growth “inspiring”. He said “One of our initiatives is expansion of Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs as a strategy to drive future enrollment growth by providing school programs that are in high demand from California’s families.”
